I_____________________________________ am in full understanding of RALEIGH aka CHARLIE having been surrendered back to the organization after approx. 8months of ownership due to the fact that he demonstrated food aggression and guarding behavior.
Since being surrendered Raleigh had an incident where he bit his foster parent, which resulted in the need for medical attention. Lacerations sustained required 3 sutures. This occurred when the foster parent attempting to pet him while giving him his food. After his adoption his owner reported that
RALEIGH continues to demonstrate resource guarding behavior. He will bark/snarl when new people enter his home or when he is in a car, that is stopped in traffic. While with his adopter he did run out and nip at the delivery man’s leg (no skin broken) and he tried to bite (no skin broken) when the adopter’s daughter tried to move him from the sofa.
It is evident that RALEIGH benefits from a structured environment. We feel it best for him to go to a home who will continue to provide structure and guidance. Here are some tips for how best to manage RALEIGH’s behavior:
He would benefit from more socialization. He does well with other dogs and being around other dogs will boost his confidence and further instill trust in humans.
